In another email, you said you wanted to add things to @INC.
One way to do this is to set the PERL5LIB environment variable
before running the Gimp.
export PERL5LIB=/opt/perl-5.7.1/lib/5.7.1/:$HOME/lib:/usr/local/lib/5.7.1
Of course, you should use the directories that are appropriate
for your system.
For more information on environment variables that affect
perl, see:
perldoc perlrun

Gimp.pm is a part of a perl extension for writing
Gimp extensions and plug-ins. This gives people who
don't like Scheme another way to script the Gimp using
Perl. If you don't like Perl, I hear there's a Python one
somewhere. (I could be wrong, though).

PM stands for Perl Module. A perl module is a library of
perl functions.
See http://search.cpan.org/ for more information about
perl modules.

I've seen something like this when playing with the script-fu
server. I think that when it says, "wire_read," it means that it
tried to read something from a socket.

Maybe something died prematurely (or never got started)?
I dunno.
