[Gimp-user] 16 bit Tiff files | |

I am using Gimp 1.04 on an SGI workstation using Irix 6.5. I have some 16-bit Tiff files (a slightly bastardized version of tiff created by the imaging tool) that I want to work on but when I try to open them I get a Gimp Message "TIFF can't handle files wider than 8-bit". So can Gimp open 16-bit images? Is their a cript that can help me? I think that the files are in "little-endian" format, will this make a difference on an SGi?
