This is a newbie question. I have read the Manual and also "Grokking the Gimp" but I can't quite figure out what to do. I have a photo of a dog. I want just the dog on a transparent background in a jpeg or gif file to put on a web page. I can select the outline of the dog. Now what do I do? do I move it to another layer? Please indicate step by step how I get to just the dog with a transparent background. Also, should I use jpeg or gif for the final image? All responses appreciated. John Culleton
