Test the same font in a word processor (like AbiWord) to see if it's a Gimp problem.

If it still happens, is there a newer version of XFree86 or a patch? If not,
try reporting the bug to the team that wrote XFree86 (or if you have some sort
of font interpretter program, the makers of that program).
