Clone tool problem w/ MAC

Trying to use the CLONE tool on my MAC book, and according to the GIMP manual it involves pressing the CRTL key to let GIMP know..... but every time I do hit the CTRL key the screen (as programmed in MACs) has all the windows wiped from view. So how do I use the clone tool?

Any help would be super!!
