I am new and totally lost

I downloaded gimp version 2.6.6
I am new to the program and just barely have a clue as to what I'm doing. I'm the type of person I need step by step diections-- 
I have been following a fairly easy tut about using a template--
here's where the confusion begins--
the tutorial shows using 1 picture being cropped into the frame--
the template I want to use has 3 pictures .....
And now I'm totally lost....
I can get the first picture semi permanent but how do I get the other pics in place-- ????
Is there a tut on using premade templates in general? I have the manual but it doesn't really cover templates....
