Hello John,
If you work with voluminous files which have more than one layers, the GIMP native format would be advisable. Once the picture is ready, you can re-save it as jpeg or whatever you prefer.
For converting from formats not recognised by GIMP try out www.media-convert.com

Hello,
I am just getting started with gimp.
I want to use picture files from my Cannon S5IS and I use CHDK.
This gives me a raw file that will not open with Gimp 2.6.
What would be the best format for me to convert the photos into for use in Gimp?
Thanks for any suggestions,
John
