Robert, you said it had been awhile since you had been around (hope you
stay awhile), so a little background.
ogfs is trying to simplify itself and use other projects as much as
possible.
Following that strategy, the goal is to replace stomith with stonith but
it is a non-trivial problem. (ie. stonith is user space programs, while
ogfs is all kernel based for now, also the long-term goal is to allow
multiple cluster infrastructures to provide the membership and
join/leave event logic.)
OpenGFS (ogfs) calls it's fencing stomith.
Linux-HA has a fencing setup they call stonith. It is already used by
at least one project in addition to heartbeat, possibly more.
One nice thing about stonith is that it was designed from the beginning
to be extensible. Someone was looking into adding FC fencing logic to
it a while ago. Don't know if that happened or not.
Not sure that tells you anything, but I would say that working on
stomith to add functionallity is a low priority around here. OTOH, you
might get some real interest about extending stonith with SNIA SMI-S or
iSCSI fencing over on the linux-ha mailing list.
