Re: [ogfs-dev]cidev info integrated into superblock

What does it mean if I have more than one GFS filesystem? Do I need cidev information at the end of both? I also view cidev information as independent (as part of the cluster infastruction: CI, OCF, ...). The node number/name to journal is the only thing that would seem to me to be not only GFS but per filesystem specific.

Just a couple of comments (I don't know the "right" answer here) . . .

Upside: It integrates the information onto a single commonly accessible
medium, somewhat simplifying administration.

Downside: It becomes less separable from the filesystem ... I thought we
were working towards getting the clustering aspects more independent.

Unknown-at-the-moment: What else is the cidev used for, beyond static
cluster member info? I looked into its usage a month or two ago from the
perspective of marrying a cluster member to a journal, but that's as far as
I looked.

Subject: [ogfs-dev]cidev info integrated into superblock

Somebody on the -users list posed the question of whether we could get rid of the cidev requirement. I've thought about this a few times, and figured it would not be easy at the very least. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I always assumed that something like that would be done in the superblock, but I got to thinking, maybe it would be possible to desgnate a dead zone at the end of the drive/partition/volume/etc. to put this info into. Does anybody have any ideas about this? I think this would actually be a good thing (c)
