This bug is fixed in the most recent version of Gaim. If you are
not using the lastest version, please upgrade. If you are using
the latest version, please indicate so and reopen this bug.

This is what I did:
Simply download the newest source versions of all of the
following:
GLIB, ATK, PANGO, GTK+
You'll need to install in that order.
Configure them all with the --prefix=/usr, make and make
install.
Gaim, as well as any other GTK+2.0 requiring application works
perfectly after that.
