Did you consider libtool(1)? It handles this correctly on the build system before you do "make install". After "make install" (to $DESTDIR subdirectory) the resulting binaries need to be used on their final locations. libtool(1) handles it by binaries wrapping scripts and general relinking. ... > other options include working with /etc/ld.so.conf on the new > system, of course, /etc/ld.so.conf.d/* is a well packagable solution.
