Problems booting dump-capture kernel | |
| [Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] | |
So I decided to see if it would boot via grub, like other kernels, and it doesn't, I just get a blank screen after grub loads it. I know the documentation says not to add this kernel to the boot loader configuration files, but I just don't know what else to do to troubleshoot the problem.
My system kernel is based on Debian etch (2.6.18 kernel) starting from Debian's config file for their 2.6.18-5-k7 linux-image recompiled per kdump.txt on a PowerSpec 5500 with a 32 bit Sempron CPU. The dump-capture kernel is compiled from the same source, starting from "make defconfig" then tweaked per kdump.txt.
FWIW, I've upgraded this box to run mythtv (upgraded PSU, new graphics card, tv tuner card, second 500GB disk, DVD burner) but it tends to lock up when I'm running the mythfrontend GUI in X. I was hoping to use kexec/kdump to try to figure out the root cause. I've used Unix crash tools, so if I can just get a dump, I think I can tease out the info I need.
So any suggestions on how to get kexec to work for me, or at least troubleshoot why it's not working, would be very much welcome. If you want to see my config files, dmesg, etc., please let me know if I should send as attachments or inline.
