The dump capture kernel is a regular kernel, but booted with lesser memory than
normal. So I think running applications should be safe, just that it will be 
slower than usual.

The size of the vmcore will be the RAM SIZE minus the area reserved for 
the dump capture kernel(via the the crashkernel= option)
