<x-charset Windows-1252>It was another characteristic Jerry Olsen statement. Only this time he has
gone one better by stating the OBVIOUS but as usual in the extreme. It is
obvious that the usefulness of an image editing program is limited by not
having layers and it is extreme to dismiss it completely because it lacks
such a feature. I am not even sure if Jerry is actually familiar with the
software that he has dismissed out of hand.

The software in question was put out several years ago (around the time of
Photoshop 4 or 5) by Binuscan as, I believe, an all in one scanner/image
editing program for professional photographers. I believe that it was in
addition to the the Binuscan PerfectPlus (which was the original Binuscan
product that was bundled with some scanners such as Umax) and Binuscan
ColorPro program (which was the newer more advanced program aimed at
pre-press service bureaus who worked in CYMK that was bundled with some
scanners as an extra cost option) and was aimed at providing retouching
capabilities for standard photographic retouching and not for furnishing
either restoration functions or artistic image enhancement and editing
features which might require layers. My understanding was that it allowed
for color correction, cloning, spot and dust removal, scratch removal,
cropping, brightness and contrast control, as well as sizing and resampling.
It was not intended to permit users to add such things as multiple composite
images, frames, textures, etc. or to draw or paint in new objects as is the
case for Photoshop.

Once upon a time PhotoShop was devoid of 'layers'.

But without layers, it can't be too useful.
