HP uses pigmented black and dye-based colors. And therein lies a problem: the two ink sets are incompatible. Consequently, when printing blacks in an image that is largely a color image or dark colors that normally would require black added, it prints only from the color ink set. Thus, it becomes almost impossible to get true blacks on things other than text.
