Archival Matte Problem

I use Photoshop 6 on a Macintosh to print to a 1270 with OEM inks.

I've printed black & white images with good results on both Heavyweight
Matte and PGPP. I set the print dialog to use "black" ink rather than
"color".

I decided to try this with Archival Matte, but I have a persistent problem.
I get very fine white lines running "across" the image (not down).

I tried both Heavyweight Matte and Glossy Film settings to vary the amount
of ink used.

I ran a cleaning cycle.

None of these things fixed the problem.

I'd like to hear what settings others have found to work well with Archival
Matte on the 1270/1280, and I'd very much like suggestions for how to get
rid of these white lines.

(I searched the archive for discussions of Archival Matte, but didn't find
anything related to this.)
