It's a good question, but I can explain why. Primarily, the MIS inks
do not eliminate the orange shift... just prolong its occurrence.
With the combination of the MIS inks and the Colorlife paper, I'm
hoping to have the best longevity for a glossy-type paper using a
dye-based inkset on my 1280. Also, the Colorlife has a lightfast
rating about 2.5 times better than the "Premium" papers. Of course,
these are Wilhelm's figures and I'm not so sure about the accuracy.
But if the figures are right, it puts the Colorlife paper at about the
same longevity as the Matte-heavyweight. And of course the matte
paper is not water resistant. Obviously, I would much prefer that the
Colorlife paper WAS water resistant like the resin papers, but that
characteristic is not as important to me as lightfastness and
gasfastness. I'm not expecting the Colorlife paper to eliminate
fading for unprotected prints, but if it eliminates the orange
shifting, then it has a purpose for my photo printing needs.

But since you mention it, I know there are sprays to use for
protecting prints from fading (that really vary in terms of
effectiveness without degrading the photo quality). But I wonder if
there are sprays that will make the prints water resistant on this
paper?

Which new printers are you referring to? All the current models of
Epson printers can be refilled, to the best of my knowledge.
