This applies to Windows 2000; it may be different with 95/98/ME.

1) right click on the icon
2) select properties
3) select the 'General' tab - you will see the file name and file type - if
these are correct, proceed, if not, correct it
4) next to the statement 'Opens With' it will list the associated
application; a 'Change' button follows
5) click on the change button
6) select the application you want to open the file type
7) select the 'Always use...' box if appropriate and close with 'OK'
