The new MIS "Double Density" black is being used.

I have tested it to 100 hours in my fader, in the variable-tone MIS formula,
and with a comparison Piezo black test strip in the same formula. They are
equivalent with respect to darkness, color shift and fading. (The DD black
had a hair of an advantage in all respects, but not enough to be
significant. I've seen greater sample-to-sample and test-to-test
variations.)

I have heard of nothing that would indicate any advantage to the Piezo
colors for this purpose. There is so little metamerism with the MIS or
Piezo-based variable-tone mix with the MIS Archival colors that I wouldn't
spent much time to reduce it further.

I suspect the Color Piezo claimed reduced metamerism is mostly due to the
very weak black they use. (Likewise, the visibly increased metamerism when
Generations black is used in the variable-tone mixes is one reason I don't
recommend using that black.) It appears that the darker the black, the
worse the metamerism problem. I think the Piezo/MIS DD black has hit the
sweet spot, with respect to quads at least.

After you take a look at how rock solid the MIS cyan is in the RIT fade
testing, you'd be hard pressed to find any ink of any kind that could equal
it. Until I see superior fade testing from others, the MIS cyan (and to a
lesser extent magenta) is going to be a the one I recommend. I think the
incredible stability that RIT found with that pigment is one reason the
testing indicates that the colder the mix the more stable it is.
