6 -color Epsons are still better.
www.silverace.com/dottyspotty/ to compare actual print samples yourself.
The result are smoother color gradiants esp. in skin/flesh tones, and less dottiness.
Unless speed or longevity/fade-proofness is more important, I'd buy the 6-colors instead.
Even the Epson 1200, which is three generations old, can beat the latest 4-colors from Epson in absolute photo print quality.
(not to mention, great buy at microcenter.com months ago at $120ish; www.ebay.com should have some bargins, esp. for a 19"x23" wide-body 6-color inkjet)
(yep, three generations old. There's the Epson 750/1200, then the next generation of the 870/1270/780/890/1290 series, and latest, the PM-900C 7-color model, which very, very sadly, has not been released outside Japan yet
depsite being available there since dec. 2000 - www.epson.co.jp for full specs on this 2 picolitre, 7-color, direct to CD-R disc prints killer inkjet)
