<x-charset iso-8859-1>Thanks, Paul. These files load OK. Happy New Year! mike -----Original Message----- From: owner-epson-inkjet@leben.com [mailto:owner-epson-inkjet@leben.com]On Behalf Of Paul Roark Sent: 29 December 2000 17:03 To: epson-inkjet@leben.com Subject: Piezography Quad inks through Epson driver (was PR's curves) Remko, Mike & other Piezo fans, The attached curves were made in Photoshop 6.0. I'm not sure if they work with other versions of the program. They should work for both Mac and Windows. (I'm on Windows, Jerry is on a Mac, I believe.) They allow one to print Piezo quad inks through the Epson driver -- with the Error Diffusion algorithm fully operational. For both the 1160 and the 3000, this might result in better images. The blacks are deeper, and the Error Diffusion should help smooth out the micro banding of the printers (these machines are seldom perfect). To use the curves adjustments, put the attached files in the Photoshop 6.0 folder. There are two curves files because each is optimized for a different type of image. PzoRGB3 is Jerry Olson's favorite. According to my tests it gives the smoothest results in the dark tones (70% - 100%). It also does well above that, but PzoRGB2, according to my tests, is smoother from 50% to 0% (the lighter tones). (If you want to average them, make a duplicate layer, apply one to each and flatten at 50%.) The trick is that at some point the relatively dark cyan ink has to be used. Where that kicks in may show slightly on a 3000. (On an 1160 you'll never see dots with these curves, even with a loupe.) The working grayscale file is converted to RGB mode only for printing. Apply the curves and the image turns brightly colored, with yellow highlights. (You can put the mode change and curves application in an "Action" and on a function button. F2 on my computer is PzoRGB2, F3 is PzoRGB3.) When you print the RGB file, use the Epson printer driver the way you would for a high quality color image. The paper type is Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper. However, these curves are profiled for Archival Matte paper; they seem to work well with most matte papers. On the last dialogue box of the Epson driver (of my 1160, the 3000 may be different) check "No Color Adjustment" in the Color Management section. (My machine is basically set on the Photoshop 5 default color settings. I'm not sure if these matter that much.) I'm particularly interested in how these curves do on Epson 3000s. Does the Error Diffusion help the banding problems? Good luck. Others say they work fine. I'm on a mac too. I'll send you the curve again, and here's paul's e mail, so you could get it directly from him. proark@silcom.com I'm sending you all 4 of Paul's curves. Be sure your image is rgb mode before applying. THe first one is for the 1160, piezo inks, and epson driver The second is the same curve with a different name. Try each and see if one works. The next 2 are for the 3000 epson printer, epson driver, and piezo inks. All should be used on epson archival papers. I am astounded with the 3rd rgb curve. It gives a totally dotless print from the 3000, with fantastically deep blacks, with the epson driver. NO dots, Deep blacks! (printed at 1440 DPI.) Jerry - Turn off HTML mail features.
