<x-charset iso-8859-1> > Dan, is this a joke, or were you serious? VODKA through a printhead? or > could you mean just an ounce of alcohol? > > Jerry > Vodka is a very useful tool for a photographer. Get high proof vodka. You know, to clean a lens you can take a quick shot of vodka, breathe on the lens, and wipe lightly with lens tissue. It is less intrusive than using an alcohol based lens cleaner. If you accidentally flood a lens with lens cleaner it can seep into the lens and dissolve the cement that holds the lens elements together. This is bad. When it's very cold and the wind is tearing at every opening in your clothing, and you're standing waiting for the light to change .... waiting ...... waiting ....... your lens can get very dirty and just may need frequent cleaning. (Well, to avoid cleaning marks on your lenses, take the shot of vodka, then check the lens, might as well be ready) A lot of other alcohol products are very diluted with water or even contain lubricants which will smear your lens or clog your printer. Play it safe. Get high proof vodka. It belongs in your camera bag next to your spot meter. In my next post I'll discuss the efficacy of toasting your printer at the end of a run of prints.
