It sounds to me as if you might be using the wrong <profiles> i.e. you are inadvertently using your old 1270 profiles with your 1160, or that Windows 98 is deciding for itself to choose the 1270 profiles 'automatically'. The profiles are stored in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COLOR directory. I don't know what the name of the 1270 profile(s) is(are) but for my 1200 the file is called Ee053__1.icm. I believe this may be the same for the 1270, don't know about the 1160. As the 1160 and the 1270 are totally different (4 inks versus 6) I would think it likely that they have different profiles [maybe the 1160 users on the list can help here?]. I don't know what the 1160 profiles are called, but if you use Windows Explorer to go into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COLOR directory and right click on any .icm files you find there, and select Properties from the context menu, then the Profile Information tab shows you the internal name of the profile, which in my case is 'EPSON Stylus Photo 1200'. So although the file names are cryptic, the name of the printer will be inside the file and viewable via 'properties'. If you do some rummaging around in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COLOR directory, you should find the profiles for your 1160 (there may only be 1 generic profile supplied by Epson). Once you've identified the correct profile for your 1160, go into Control Panel and run the Printers app. Right-click on your 1160 printer, select Properties & click on the color management tab. At this point you should make sure you have the 'manual' radio button clicked, pick out your 1160 profile from the list and click 'set as default'. This makes sure that (a) you have the correct default profile (b) Windows can't change it behind your back. If your 1160 profile does not appear in the list at this point means it hasn't been 'installed' as far as Windows is concerned. In this case you just go into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COLOR directory again, and 'install' the profile by right-clicking on it & choosing 'install' from the context menu. You should also right-click again & choose 'associate', then add you 1160 to the list of associated devices. Once you've done all this, do another print using <Epson ink and paper> and make sure the printer settings are OK in Photoshop. Hopefully this will sort out your problem. > My long term aim with the 1160 is to switch to Lysonic Fotonic inks for > colour and their new Small Gamut for BW. I suggest you phone them for more up to date details. I've not used dabs but they are recommended by a friend I trust. Their prices for Epson ink cartridges are good for the 1200 as well. There were rumours on the list about the 1160 printers going out of production so I'd just snap one up if I were you! > Your original question certainly generated an interesting thread and CD > Tobie's recommendations must carry a lot of weight. Please let me know what > you finally purchase and how you get on. I am waiting for a quote from a UK ColorVision dealer for the new Spyder + PhotoCal software. The US price is $200 which is very keen, so it's a case of seeing what the GBP price is. Looks a nice piece of kit <on paper>. > As you said, it's good to have a contact in the UK - the Leben list is > excellent but very USA. So let's contribute to the list & see if anyone else joins in ;-) Regards Alan arew@patrol.i-way.co.uk - Turn off HTML mail features. Keep quoted material short.
