Epson 1270 printing stops half-way?

This happened last night while printing a color photoshop document with
about 30 layers and 21 megs.paper stodk didn't make difference

we were using fit to page and maximum when this happened.

after a number of struggles we removed maximum and it printed ok...any ideas?
