1160 problem w/ cartridge installation

Well, I just received delivery of an 1160 (a refurb) & tried to install the
Epson cartridges to try it out until my CIS arrives. The only problem is
that when I turn on the printer, the head mechanism (without cartridges)
moves to the left, as it should, but not quite all the way. As a result I
can't lift the door for the color cartridge. Does anyone know what's up
with this? Do I need to send it back to Epson already?
