That's what I do for a living. But it isn't the Judge that matters, it's the Jury. Do you know of a case where an individual was prosecuted and convicted of patent violation for modifying a patented device that s/he purchased themselves? If that were the case, then you probably couldn't eat a McDonald's hamburger.
