RE: Wilhelm Imaging Research

<x-charset iso-8859-1>Mike,

If I am not mistaken, you are preaching to the choir. I did not shout anyone
down.

I did shout a lot about a need for Epson to make a clearer and less
misleading statement of their claim and to publicly address the issues of
orange shift due to whatever in a more public and available manner. I think
I also suggested that they should change their ads and put out some press
releases discussing the nature of their claims, the limits of them, and the
air contamination problem so that the press and sales people would be aware
of the issues and would inform the public. In previous discussions,

I have always regarded the issues as an ethical problem revolving around the
way Epson has stayed within the literal meaning of the words it uses while
implying far more to persons who may not be all that sophisticated. I
criticized them for not acknowledging problems sooner and in public, not
being forthcoming in making clear their position and planed actions, and for
not being consistent worldwide in their statements and policies. After the
recent Firestone and Mishubshi (sp?) revelations and actions, I think that
the Japanese companies have been done in by their own Japanese and corporate
cultures. Denial and reluctance to acknowledge problems seems to be part of
that culture which emphasizes saving face and success at all costs.

Which is what a few of us were trying to tell the list many moons ago (i.e.
top
coating and sealing being very effective for print longevity) but were
shouted
down for only having anecdotal evidence with no "science". ;-) Sorry, I
could
help myself.
