Tyler,

This sounds like the most likely reason for the problem. I took your
advice, had to subscribe to the the piezography3000 list first.
I finally found the post by Mark Romino with the detailed instructions
on how to tighten the springs. He does not mention that one might
have to tighten them selectively depending on where the print is
slipping. This part will not be quite as easy to figure out. He says he
tightened them (I assume all?). 

Tomorrow I will try this even though it sounds scary.

Thanks so much for posting this. I will let you know how it worked. If
anyone else wants to check it out the instructions are in message 151
on that list.
