You will seldom want to convert your files directly to the printer space, so that end of it will not affect scanner settings much. Admittedly the settings in SilverFast are not exactly intuitive, but they reflect different elements of scanning. The monitor profile is needed to offer accurate previews, so on screen corrections mean something. The scanner profile, on the other hand is u sed for conversion to other spaces, such as your Photoshop RGB workingspace, which is the most likely place for scans to end up. The monitor automatic setting should just look to ColorSync for your current monitor space, which should be the same, its just handy to have it auto update to your latest profile, in case you have reprofiled the monitor since you set up the scanning software.
