<x-charset iso-8859-1>I had the pleasure to meet Jon Cone at PhotoPlus The man evidently loves his job and his products, and I was very impressed to see the Piezography system working for the first time on the 1160. I heard pretty much the same thing from him - Epson actually sends customers to him who are looking for a B&W solution. However the downside of this apparently cozy relationship is that he is wary of directly challenging Epson in their own market. I specifically asked him whether, given that they have built their own Epson drivers from scratch for the Piezography system, they could not create a 1270 version that ignored the smart-chip altogether. His answer was that, regardless of if it was technically possible, they would not do so for fear of bringing the wrath of Epson down upon them. At the Photo Plus Expo in LA this month, a product manager from Epson (Mark? something, didn't catch his last name) stated that at this point Epson had no plans to offer quad inksets, and it did not seem likely that they ever would (market's too small). This was brought up during the "latest in digital output" session with Henry Wilhelm. In fact, Mark (?) then nodded towards Jon Cone, and said something like: "There's your answer for quad printing" (neither Epson nor Cone were sponsors of the session) David Corwin - * Epson Inkjet Replacement CARTS at bulk ink prices!
