Man!  That's a bitch.  Sorry to hear anything but a rave review of the 1600,
especially since I've been poised to order one.  On your other observation, I
disagree.  I think scanner reviews are totally germane, since unless you're printing
directly from a digital camera, a scanner is an integral part of the process.
