That's certainly how I understand it. I also agree with you that it's somewhat inferential. I read the statement to mean that he's pessimistic about the whole product area, based on some (unspecified) testing. That's obviously opinion (if he holds it; I'm *speculating* here) rather than solidly supported knoweldge.
