Ink Cart Expiration Date

<x-flowed>Thanks for the feedback on when to replace OEM ink carts.  Now here 
is a related question that many folks on this list probably never 
have to worry about...

Is it safe to use ink carts that are past the expiration date?  I 
tend to buy a number of carts when I place an order but I actually 
print a limited number of prints.   Unlike most film, I don't suppose 
you can put it in the freezer and basically forget about it until the 
time comes when you need it!
