Mostly true, but some scanners are capable of changing their
exposure during a final scan for dark images.  Also, I have some
doubts that a non-scanner-specific plugin is going to be able
to do as good a job of untangling the curves for color negatives
for that specific scanner.  (Even VueScan includes 7 film choices.)
But I haven't tried it, so maybe it isn't rocket science at all.
