Well, you may have stumbled into more than you want to learn. The
problem you may have is that few people on this list seem to be motivated
first by simply saving money--I don't remember seeing any discussions
of "OEM-compatible" cartridges like the ones you find in the office supply
catalogs. The 2 big issues here are print quality and longevity (in one
order
or the other). As a gross oversimplification (I can do that because I don't
know enough to give you the whole story), there are some inks that give
results at least close to the Epson OEM ones (some people think better,
but they seem to be in the minority)--but they aren't necessarily cheaper,
and they aren't archival. So we have the universe divided mostly into
those who want "highest quality" with reasonable life, and those who
want longest life with "best available" quality.

The "lowest cost with reasonable quality" faction is into refilling with bulk
inks, of which there are a number of suppliers. Unfortunately their
refilling
processes tend to involve more esoterica than some of us are willing
to tackle, sometimes involving enough combinations of vacuum pumps,
drilling holes, special seals or tape, etc. that you think you have wandered
into an S&M newsgroup. (Sorry--I couldn't resist.) You can find instructions
for refilling their particular inks at www.missupply.com and
www.mediastreet.com,
for example. May the force be with you.
