I just played around some more with my 1200, printing a difficult image (for Generations) with a lot of very dark, almost black gradiants. The DAS Photo Glossy showed pronounced black flecks, DAS Matte produced very nice smooth gradiants, but wasn't as sharply black due to the matte surface, Epson Photo Paper was in the middle, looking more grainy than flecked. Epson Film was really spectacular, smooth and very black, however, it has the unfortunate characteristic that once it dried, the color layer could be easily and completely removed with a fingernail. I also tried the same image on a couple of the DAS Hahnemeuhle Art papers which are coated water color papers with various weights and textures, which worked very well, same as with the OEM ink. A friend of mine at work just let me try a couple of sheets of Weber Valentine Photo Gloss and Lumijet Gallery Gloss, so I'll post how it goes. I'm beginning to think that an answer would be the DAS Matte with some sort of gloss spray overcoat.
