One good tutorial place I visit is http://www.designsbymark.com/pstips/
He explains neatly and well. A pleasure to learn from this site.
Books?  - I'm still coming to terms with "Photoshop 4 for Windows BIBLE".
It's huge, a mere 800 pages

Good luck with PS 5, you'll love it, everyone does:)
