>From the pictures on the Japanese site I believe the 1600 dpi scanner uses the same technology that the 1200 does but with a CCD that does 800 dpi native rather than 600 dpi native. The 1200 does essentially the same thing in the X direction that all those 600x1200 dpi scanners have been doing in the Y direction for years.
