I think that there are many people like us: - starting to use a "digital darkroom" approach - trying to print "best possible" pictures from 35mm slides or negatives - interested in 11 x 17 inch, 8 x 10 inch, and some 4 x 6 inch prints - recently bought the Epson 1200 or 750 printer - for starters, bought Epson inks and Epson Photographic paper - bought Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and several related books - would like to get more permanent papers and inks than currently available from Epson - think that they should calibrate the scanner, monitor, printer, but are - overwhelmed by all the knowledge, data, opinions we found here and in the literature As a background information: we run Windows 98 on HP Vectra PC, use LG Studioworks 995E monitor, and HP LS-2000 film and HP 6200 flatbed scanners. And, doing this as a hobby, we have limited financial resources I know that we (and perhaps many others on this list) would benefit from simple answers to the following (perhaps complicated) questions: 1. We need some calibration software. Is the "Prove It" the best (affordable) to get? 2. It seems that we should wait for the 6-color cartridges soon to be available from http://www.inkjetmall.com -- is that correct? 3. Should we switch from the Epson paper to other paper -- such as Luminos? 4. We need some profiles -- what should we get to use with the few boxes of Epson paper and inks we have, and keep using with the "new" papers and inks we might switch to? 5. How should we assure that the Versions of the items (1-4) shown above are mutually compatible? Thank you for any help -- Lubos in the Texas Hill Country part of Austin - Turn off HTML mail features.
