The first print and every other one I have made have been beyond my expectations. I attribute this success to you folks and the sharing of your experiences. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Prior to purchase, I developed a list of potential pitfalls and studied the setup and solution procedures that could reduce the chances of problems. In case there are others out there who are hesitating because of perceived potential problems, a description of my startup follows:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>System: Pent.II 450; 128megs; 10gigs (7 free); Win98; PS5.5; Trinitron monitor; Nikon LS-2000 scanner.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Connection: USB. I was concerned here because of a previous USB connection problem with another device. Studied the "Start Here" brochure that came with the printer and followed directions exactly. Everything worked as described. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Setup and scanning: Followed Ian Lyons recommendations to the letter. See his article "Using the Photo 750/1200 with PhotoShop 5" at <A href="http://www.magix.com.sg/users/kltham/">http://www.magix.com.sg/users/kltham/</A> . I found the reference from this list. Used Adobe Gamma to set monitor. Trinitron phosphors: 2.2 gamma: 6500 white point. PS working space: Adobe RGB (1998). Scanner space set at RGB. Usually scan at 300 dpi at 8X10. 12 bit scans, 16 passes. Set highlight and shadow prior to scan if possible. Monitor matches slides quite well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PS adjustments: Use curves for color and contrast adjustment. Unsharp mask on luminosity channel for sharpening. Save as 8 bit .psd file for printing. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Printing: So far using Photo Paper "New" with Epson inks. Epson custom settings as per Ian Lyons' article. 8X10 print (18meg file) takes about 10 minutes. Results are striking. Flesh tones for all races are right on. Blacks are black. Other colors are very true except for highly saturated greens and blues which are toned down just a bit. I attribute this to the fact that the printer's color space does not match the monitor's and film's spaces. The way I understand it, this mismatch is a fundamental limitation of this process. With thickness setting at "+", see some very slight pizza wheel tracks on heavy coverage areas right after printing. Amazingly, I can not see them after about 20 minutes. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As stated, I am a beginner. However, thanks to you, I now have a solid base from which to explore other inks and papers and other color management techniques.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Chuck Spalding </DIV></BODY></HTML> </x-html>
