Not on a Wintel machine, you don't.

I've printed TrueType fonts, using
MS Word, or MS Publisher, on an Epson
700, that are as crisp as those from
a 600 dpi HP Laser Printer.

What you *don't* want to do is print
text from a graphics application, if
you can help it.  If you need to mix
text and graphics, get a publishing
program (e.g. Microsoft Publisher,
on the low end, or Pagemaker or
Quark on the high end, or Adobe Acrobat
somewhere in the middle.)
