Larry, No long procedure and no waste. If you choose manual feed banner setup for roll paper, the printer stops feeding at the end of the selected paper size. In other words, the roll paper doesn't continue to feed through and waste paper. When finished, slice it off, and the roll paper is out of the way. As far as changing modes, I leave the roll on the roll holders (I'm using a Red River Glossy roll that fits easily) and cover it up with the printer's roll paper cover. You can feed in single sheets anytime. John Goerger of Weber-Valentine suggested using their supplied box feeder instead of the 3000's roll holder. Either way, there is little waste when printing.
