1200 text printing

Good day,

I am new to this list and to my 1200. I have been very happy thusfar
with the printer's output of color images, but I recently attempted to
print text for a birthday card (on card stock) and it was very
"frail"looking (not crisp and sharp). If anyone has a link to a webpage
with instructions on how to best use this printer for text, or has any
suggestions, I would appreciate it.
