The 3000 is one of the very few Epsons that use a bladder cartridge rather
than a sponge stuffed painfully-small reservior and all its foamy problems.
That is one big reason so many folks love the 3000. I have been less that
100% compliant on the "don't put the cut-off needle too far in" advice and
haven't punctured a bladder yet. But it is a bladder and a bit of caution
is distinctly justified unless you are willing to keep a couple spares
around.

Note, if you do puncture the bladder and spring a leak it is possible to
extract the ink from the cartridge by holding the cartridge above the
syringe and pulling the plunger carefully and slowly out (A trick I
discovered after accidently putting the wrong color ink into a previously
filled cartridge and accidently blending my own new ink color! Had to dump
the ink but rescued the cartridge by injecting and sucking out plain old
water then a bit of ink prior to refilling with good clean ink. Not a
pleasant process but doable).
