My Stylus 600 refuses to print through normal driver

I have a problem with my printer which has started all of a sudden and I'm
wondering if anyone has a possible solution.

When I try to send something to the printer it goes to the spool manager
but just stays there and doesn't get sent to the printer, i.e the box
displaying No. of pages, printer status, ink remaining etc isn't activated.
It looks like whatever links the Epson Spool manager to the status/print box
has gone wrong. I've done the following to try and solve the problem but
without any success:

Checked the default spool directory - correctly set at c:\windows\temp

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers several times (both
originals and updated ones from Epson site) - no luck at all

Tried changing the spool settings of the printer from RAW to EMF - EMF
setting not available

However, when I try printing to LPT1 through DOS everything works OK. I
have also installed a different driver :- Epson Stylus COLOR ESC/P 2.

This driver works perfectly though interestingly doesn't use an Epson spool
manager but instead prints directly through the normal Windows98 system.

Can anyone suggest a possible solution for my problem. Although this other
Epson driver is OK is doesn't provide anywhere near as many features as the
Stylus 600 driver

Thanks very much for any help you can give

Regards
David
