According to Epson the USB port is much faster.  If the parallel port was
faster then there would be more parallel port scanners and there are not.  I
have a 750 on a epp parallel port and a 1200 on a usb and the usb is 10
times faster.  On it I can print a 8x10 in a little under 3 minutes, on the
parallel port it takes as much as 10 + minutes.  I called Epson directly and
they said that the USB port is much much faster.
