My recent tests on my Photo EX with Lyson 5 color/Lumijet black have been very positive: I'm using a pretty heavy Curve adjustment in Photoshop 5 on a Mac to boost the intensity without creating mud. Also, I'm using the Epson driver at 1440/Sup. Microweave/Finest Detail/Photo Realistic and the Glossy Film setting. As I learn more about Colorsync profiling, I'll consider going that route, but it is hard for me to believe that the printer/inks can do much better. My favorite paper is definately the Lumijet Flaxen Weave. Sepia Landscapes, Color Flowers and portraits/nudes all looked great on this paper. My next choice is Concord Rag, which has a look and feel especially suited towards portraits, in my opinion, since at small sizes, the Flaxen weave may be a bit overpowering on faces as far as texture is concerned. What is interesting about Concorde Rag to me is that the very slight texture comes through and really adds to the tactile quality of the paper. It sort of looks like a teeny, tiny bird walked all over the print like it was the beach.(Sorry, I've been looking deep into a lot of paper under heavy illumination for much of the day!) For more C-print like images, the Lumijet Gallery Gloss is really excellent, with no trace of banding, and rich blacks. If I can really expect about 70 years under normal gallery conditions with that combo, I am truly a happy camper. I was surprised to find the inks for the Lumijet/Lyson to be in exactly the same plastic cartridge, meaning that the code and label on the top for both were the same. I know Jon Cone commented on the inks being very close relatives, but my real question lies in the integrity of the lt. cyan/lt. magenta. Does anyone know if they are the same or very close as well and could 70 years still be an accurate lifespan for these babies? Costwise, the Lyson color cart was $20 less (about 40% difference) compared to the Lumijet 5 color cartridge. The cleaning cart was also much less from Lyson, but I already had the Lumijet one. Can I expect a difference in that item between the two companies? All this archival capability is very exciting and I look forward to doing more testing in the future. -Andy Darlow - Please: Stay on topic.
