Re: Digital Cameras

I'd like to add to Jim Davis' post-- most snapshots are never
enlarged beyond the print you pick up at Wally World and the
audience isn't all that picky, mostly. Grandma is thrilled to get
a pic scanned at 96 dpi and attached to email, so if a digital
camera can do that well it's good enough for a lot of people. If
Grandma does have an inkjet printer it probably isn't an Epson 900
and she probably has plain uncoated paper in it. Good
photographers would cringe at the result, but that low-resolution
print will be cherished.

There's another factor to consider-- novelty. $100 buys a good
little 35mm, but people are willing to pay more than that (maybe a
lot more) for a new toy to use with the computer.

Marshall McCluhan (sp?) said that when a new medium appears, the
medium it supplants persists as an art form. Or something like
that; I can't find my copy of "Understanding Media".
