Dave: I truly believe it will take a lot less than 10 years. Computer technology doubles in quality and halves in price every 18 months. I think you will see the same thing in digital photo technology. Remember the first consumer digital camera? How long did it take for the first megapixel camera to show up? Less than 2 years. If that is the case digital quality and cost of equipment will catch up and surpass film in less than 5 years. One other thought here, if it does happen this fast you will not need scanners anymore.
