This was posted on the Illustrators list by The Graphic Designers Guild....this is important! To: All Guild Members From: Graphic Artists Guild National Date: June 30, 1999 Subject: Yahoo Rights Grab Warning to Yahoo Subscriber & Potential Contributors! Since its acquisition of Geocities, online service provider Yahoo has changed its ãterms of serviceã. This new "take it or leave it" contract particularly concerns artists, web developers or anyone else who upload any copyrightable material on the Geocities/Yahoo site. The offending language reads: "8. CONTENT SUBMITTED TO YAHOO By submitting Content to any Yahoo property, you automatically grant, or warrant that the owner of such Content has expressly granted, Yahoo the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed...." We will keep you posted on this issue, but until we can resolve Yahoo's intent, artists may wish to consider moving their property to another host site.
